How to choose a video production company in Cluj-Napoca: a buyer’s checklist

By · Published · Updated · 5 min read

Choose a video production company by what it can show and explain — complete projects, a clear process, and the names of the people who will actually shoot and edit your film — not by the lowest price or the longest client list.

Start with your own goal

Before you contact anyone, write one sentence: what should this video do, for whom, and where will it be seen? A company that cannot discuss that sentence with you is selling hours, not results.

Look at whole projects, not just the reel

A showreel is a highlight. Ask to see two or three complete films similar to yours, and ask what the company did on each: concept, camera, edit, colour, sound. Check that the quality is consistent from the first shot to the last, and that the sound is as good as the picture.

Ask who does what

Who will direct, who will shoot, who will edit? A very large agency may be perfect for a campaign; a small team or a single filmmaker may be better for a documentary or clinic video, where trust and flexibility matter. Both are fine — what matters is that you know who will be on set.

Check how much is in-house

Colour grading, sound design and motion graphics are where many films are won or lost. If they are done in-house by the same people who shot the film, the result has one voice. If they are outsourced, ask who is responsible for the final look.

Understand the process and the schedule

A good company can describe its steps without jargon: strategy, pre-production, production, post-production and delivery. It should give you a written schedule: shoot dates, first cut, how many review rounds are included, final delivery date.

Be clear on deliverables and rights

  • Which versions you receive: master, platform versions, cut-downs
  • Which formats: 9:16, 4:5, 1:1, 16:9
  • Who owns the footage, and where the film may be used
  • How many revision rounds are included

Local knowledge helps

In Cluj-Napoca, a team that knows the city’s locations, works in Romanian, Hungarian and English, and can be on set at short notice saves real time and money. For medical and clinic work, ask about experience with consent, privacy and filming around a clinical team.

Red flags

  • No written scope or schedule
  • A portfolio that looks like stock footage and nothing else
  • A price with no explanation of what is included
  • No clear answer to “who will actually make this?”
